November 2005:
Drummer Toby Caskey, feeling inspired, begins to make his way to the drum set to work on his chops. His dog cuts in front of him, blocking his entrance through the doorway to the sacred room wherein music is made. "Skin it back," Toby says to the dog to get him to move, and the dog obeys.
March 2006:
Latecomers adamantly try to push their way through the filled to capacity crowd while the sound of a new band fills the halls of the venue. A group of four who are rapidly making a name for themselves are performing their hearts out and instantly win the hearts of all who breathe. When music fans leave the venue for the evening, they leave feeling they have been given something...they feel no doubt that they were in the right place. They come back to this band's shows. They remember the name "Skinnitback".
Skinnitback, featuring an all-star ensemble of four seasoned veterans, is a heavy thrash-core mix of metal maelstrom. Lower end melodics and piercing high end tones compliment their aggressive approach to musical expression. Having been together for only about 5 months now, they are showing remarkable, explosive progress as they "take the music scene by force". The four members of Skinnitback have been in numerous bands in the past, but agree unanimously that they are ready, now more than ever, to reach the top with their current endeavor.
"Some of my greatest influences would be my current band mates," says guitar player Scott Peace, and the rest of the band is quick to concur. They party hard and often, but the mentality behind the music and where they intend to go with it is as serious as it gets.
Lead vocalist Chuck Maxwell can bring you in with his melodic interpretations of his inner thoughts, and then scare you away with his screams and powerful presence. A deep thinker and artist, Chuck digs deep inside the inner sanctums of his soul when something strikes a chord in his heart, and is thus inspired. On paper his thoughts will then be transcribed, often to be used as lyrics. He's been singing all his life and had some formal tutoring in his early twenties. Among his other musical explorations is the guitar, and Chuck has high ambitions of a successful music career. He is serious about the music, the fans, and putting on a good show, so don't be disrespectful at their show! Once when someone nearly knocked down one of their PA speakers, Chuck, who apparently doubles as an unofficial bouncer, drug the individual across the floor and set him outside. A few of his influences are Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and The Misfits.
On guitar, Scott Peace plays many roles. His experience is evident with the well timed useage of experimental sounds and creative execution of straight up brutal, driving, and well phrased chord progressions. Scott, like the rest of his band mates, embodies the true spirit of the rock star. His musical performance interests encompass anything with strings, and he has played guitar for the last eighteen years. He is a solid member with a "you know you can count on him" prowess. Passionate about music, he wishes for others to feel what he does - to understand the language on some level. Scott is influenced in part by Alex Skolnick, Tony Iommi, and Dimebag Darrell.
With Toby Caskey on drums, Skinnitback has yet another ace up their sleeve. After almost thirty years of drumming, he continues to pick up speed. Toby's drum kit is well balanced with highs and lows; and when the situation calls for it, he'll bring out his percussion elements as well. Influenced predominantly by people and occurrences around him, the musicianship behind his drumming embodies a love of life and all the differences therein coming together. Just by seeing a drum, or hearing it's sound, Toby often recedes back into his zone of creativity, and manifests what he finds through the way of the rock star. Highly ambitious about performing in front of a crowd, he'll bring it with everything he has. To Toby, each moment behind his drum kit is a great moment, and he strives to make sure it is a great moment for the fans as well.
Adam Mayberry will tell it like it is with his five string bass. After almost fifteen years of study and playing in other bands, he has honed and refined his style with the skill to meet the challenges of Skinnitback's music. A founding father of the music you'll hear from them, Adam's rock star impulse is continually nudging his desire to be paid to entertain. Motivated by pure desire to continue forward and make things happen, the low end connoisseur is his own worst critic, but finds clarity and peace of mind at the shooting range. Adam has found influence and inspiration in the bass playing of Alex Webster and Cliff Burton.
Skinnitback has a very liberating, run right over what holds you back feel. This is due in part to tempo exploration, and also because of the unyielding, uncaged sense of heroically conquering your adversity that the listener is sure to feel at some point. Skinnitback has a very natural feel that never stagnates, as the skillful composition of each song is built from a foundation of tight phrasing.
Skinnitback...an ensemble of four highly skilled rockers who are no strangers to the music. They party hard and think like rock stars; they make their music and live the passion. Skinnitback is ready to take things all the way...they are ready to "take the music scene by force".
